2014 Dry Rose (Pinot Noir)
Tasting notes

Two Rosés, one dry and one slightly sweet. Both deliver multiple layers of enticing summer fruit. Notes of strawberries, tart apple, spicy watermelon and raspberries are followed by bright, crisp acidity throughout the finish.

Production notes

Some might call John a legend when it comes to making Pinot Noir. With 13 years of experience in the Willamette Valley, 11 years at Sokol Blosser, one of the oldest wineries in Oregon. This is the third vintage of Pinot Noir for Jacob Williams and this year we decided to make a Rosé. Not just one, but two Rosés, one dry and one off-dry. The dry Rose has 0.2% Residual Sugar and the off-dry Rose is slightly sweeter at 1.6%.

We source our Pinot Noir grapes from Underwood Mountain Vineyard, located in Underwood, WA and owned by Jack Brady. This vineyard is dry-farmed with a cool climate similar to Alsace along the Mosul River Valley in Germany. It has a 20-30% slope and North to South orientation with well-drained light reddish volcanic, sandy, clay loam soil called "Underwood Series." Our Pinot Noir grapes come from a pretty high part of the vineyard, about 1600 feet in elevation, so it's even colder.

John Haw’s experience started with Warner Vineyards and Leelanau Cellars in Michigan back in 1972. As his career blossomed he ventured to Oregon where his family was from, landing him at Shafer Vineyars in Forest Grove for his first introduction to Oregon wines. He continued on to Sokol Blosser for 11 years, which led him to Pedroncelli in Dry Creek California and finally he found his way to the Columbia Gorge, first working for Maryhill and then finding his home with Jacob Williams. He believes the Columbia Gorge has the BEST wine growing region in the nation.

John carefully hand-selects each vineyard and allows the vineyards to dictate what the style will be. Aging his wines for up to 36 months, John’s experience and dedication continues to produce premium award-winning wines year after year.
