A wet, cold, long winter gave a slow start to the growing season. Cool weather persisted through the spring, delaying budbreak and flowering in vineyards throughout the region – coupled with a springtime snow event (Pear blossoms covered in snow in Hood River!), growers and winemakers were less than optimistic. July and August finally brought on a short, intense summer – fueling rapid canopy growth and berry development. The end of the season blessed the northwest with near-perfect weather throughout picking season, allowing for great hangtime at the end.
